Through the Lens: Explorations in photo-journaling

The winner is: Anne S. who said:

My 7 year old saved for 9 months to buy her very own digital camera, so this course would be perfect for her! Thanks so much for the chance to win! :)

Congratulations to Ann ( and her daughter! ) I'll be in touch shortly with more info.
I have been a big fan of Mariah Bruehl and her website Playful Learning for quite some time. Her blog is like flipping through a magazine of inspiration for teaching and growing with our children in intentional, creative ways. And Mariah's book Playful Learning, Develop Your Child's Sense of Joy and Wonder is even more of the same. I have reached for it many times and it has brought moments of inspiration in the midst of samey-same days of curriculum that had me feeling bogged down and bored.

Starting next week, (next week!!), November 3rd, Mariah is starting a six week e-course called Through the Lens: Explorations in photo-journaling. The course is designed for children ages 6-12, (and their parents!) and aims to use the elements of photography and writing to gain new understanding of themselves and the world around them. Throughout the course, students will be creating their own photo journals and explore a variety of writing techniques. Mariah says:

The goal for this e-course is to nurture positive self-expression through photography, writing, and art—to discover and develop a strong sense of voice. It is also a wonderful opportunity for parents and teachers to join in on the process and to connect with their children or students in new and exciting ways.

Whether you're a homeschooler looking to add variety and inspiration to your writing and journaling curriculum, or a parent looking to connect and explore with your child, I know Mariah's course will prove to be an inspiring learning experience for all.

Mariah is graciously giving away one space in her e-course to a MommyCoddleLikes reader, (a $78 value). Simply leave a comment on this post to be entered. With the course start just around the corner, a winner will be randomly chosen and announced at the top of this post on Monday, October 31st.

i love this too! i've watched my girl recently pick up her own camera and sit outside lining things up to take photos of. i wonder how much of it has been from watching me and how much of it is just a part of her.

i think creativity is a wonderful avenue for self-exploration, especially for young girls, how exciting to see this happening.

thanks for the chance!

What a great idea - I've often wondered if my 11 yo would be interested in something like this. After taking a photography course myself and working on assignments she wanted to know all about it and she kept up with taking pictures on hikes, etc. My younger two think they want cameras - but they aren't responsible enough for keeping up with them (and their batteries!!). I once had the idea of a mother/daughter chronicling of days similiar to 3191 or habit. I think that would be intersting... Thanks for a chance at this - I love Mariah's ideas.
